What
is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is well accepted as an
effective, safe, gentle and curative form of health care with the benefit
of keeping one youthful in looks and mind.
A natural system of health care.
Homeopathy gives
relief from suffering for millions of people in nearly every country of
the world. It is used to cure and treats traumas, stress, chronic
and acute conditions. It encourages the body to regenerate and make
healthy new cells. It is safe for babies, children, adults and
seniors. Homeopathy is used effectively for animals as well.
It may be used in conjunction with other therapies like acupuncture
and chiropractic treatments.
Homeopathy will
enhance the benefits of nutritional and herbal supplements.
Homeopathy is
a holistic system of health care. Homeopathy uses tiny doses of medicine
made from natural substances to activate and stimulate the body's own healing
powers to give optimum health to keep one young and vibrant.
These medicines are called remedies
and are based on the discovery that a substance can cure the same kind
of problem it causes. A plant, mineral or animal substance given
in a crude form will produce specific symptoms. The same Homeopathically
made medicine will cure exactly those same symptoms. This is the
principle of 'let likes be cured by likes' or “The Law of Similars.”
It is the basic concept that Homeopathy is derived from. The name
Homeopathy comes from two words. The Greek word ‘homoios’ means like
or similar and ‘pathos’ means sickness.
For example a person slicing onions
may get burning watery eyes, plus sneezing and a runny nose. A Homeopath
may have a patient with a cold or hayfever that has these same symptoms
of burning, watery eyes, plus sneezing and a runny nose. The remedy
red onion (allium cepa) will be given to cure these symptoms.
This prescription is based on the
“The Law of Similars.” This way of healing works with
the body's own reaction system and supports its function to
bring balance back to the body to heal and produce health. So Homeopathy
works with the body and not against it. Symptoms are generally considered
good and indicate that the body is coping with an imbalance in the best
way it can.. Symptoms are used to indicate what remedy is to be taken based
on this “Law of Similars.”.

History of Homeopathy
Homeopathic
principles have already been used for many centuries. Hippocrates
noted that disease is born of like things, and by the use of like
things people are healed. It is a well established healing system used
by the ancient Greeks. The modern system of Homeopathy was introduced
by a brilliant German physician,
Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755 to 1843.) He was appalled by the barbaric
medical practices of his day and he sought a more humane alternative. He
describes the ‘principles of cure’ in the book “Organon of the Medical
Art.” He starts by saying “The physicians highest and only calling
is to make the sick healthy. (to cure, as it is called.) Then
he goes on to say, “The highest ideal of cure is the rapid, gentle and
permanent restoration of health: that is, lifting and annihilation of the
disease in its entire extent in the shortest, most reliable, and least
disadvantageous way, according to clearly realizable comprehensible
principles.”
This
healing system based on an ancient principle has become widely used and
now spread all over the world. Homeopathy was one of the most used healing
systems in America during the early 1900’s. It was a simple and inexpensive
healing method that was suppressed by what is called modern medicine.
People are now going back to healing
of natural therapy that does not have any toxic side effects. Today
Homeopathy is practiced world wide. In Germany fifty percent of family
doctors, prescribe homeopathic medicines. and in France one third. In the
U.K. members of the Royal Family have been homeopathic patients since Queen
Victoria. In India there are 120 Homeopathic Medical Schools. In
the last 20 years due to increased awareness of the side-effects of medical
drugs, homeopathy and other natural treatments are going through
an explosion of growth and development.
How
Does Homeopathy Work?
Homeopathy
is a gentle healing therapy in which the medicines stimulate and encourage
the body's own natural healing forces of recovery and regeneration giving
an anti-aging effect. Conventional medicine believes that symptoms
are the result of illness and suppresses them to make them go away.
Allopathic medicine uses opposites to treat illness.
Homeopathy
sees the symptoms as a positive sign that the body is fighting the
illness. Homeopathy seeks to stimulate the body and work
with the body and its symptoms, rather than suppress them.
For
example, Ipecacuanha (from the root of the plant) will give a healthy person
a case of vomiting, but if taken in homeopathic doses, it will work
with the body and will bring balance to the body naturally to cure the
condition causing the vomiting.
The substances Homeopathic remedies
are made from are repeatedly diluted and shaken. With repetition
of this process the remedy actually becomes stronger. This process is called
potentization. All Homeopathic remedies have been made active
in this manner. Hahnemann observed that these dilutions made into remedies
activated something capable of switching the body from sickness to health.
He called the energy involved “vital force.”The energy of this
force is thought to be responsible for the healthy functioning of the body.
Disease is considered as an imbalance of this energy. Stress and trauma,
for example, can cause such a disturbance. The homeopathic remedy by
energizing this “Vital Force” re-establishes the body's balance thereby
making disease disappear. Many scientific reports have proven the efficacy
of Homeopathy and recent reseach shows that Homeopathic HGH, IGF1 and IGF2
reverse the effects of aging.
